Trying To Lose Weight – Exercise Can Help

0

When you’re trying to lose weight, exercise can help, but not if you rely on exercise alone to drop those pounds. Your body benefits from exercise, yes, but to lose those unwanted inches, you’ll probably need to make some changes in the foods you eat as well. Not so much the “types” of food you eat, but the size and frequency of the portions – so your caloric intake is always lower than the amount of calories you burn off in a day.

It has been suggested that lighter, more moderate exercise is more helpful when you’re trying to lose weight. The main thing to concentrate on is being “active,” since all activity burns calories – some more than others, yes, but it is this calorie burn that gets rid of the fat. Many people look at long, strenuous stints of exercise as “grueling,” and so they dread their workout sessions and eventually skip out on them, or don’t do them at all. This is why you’ll hear the most beneficial exercise for losing weight or burning off calories is the one a person will actually “do.”

To lose weight, exercise in moderation is beneficial, but heavy, strenuous exercise could sabotage your weight loss goals. Why? Because many people tend to feel hungrier after a stint of exhaustive exercise than they would if they’d only gone for a walk or played a bit of baseball with the kids outside. And, people tend to think, “Hey, I just put in 90 minutes of hard, sweaty exercise. I can reward myself for sticking to my workout plan with a little snack.” This effectively wrecks their weight loss goals because the snack they opt for (or the larger meal) often adds back more calories than their exercise burned off.

There are many such activities you could take part in that don’t really require strenuous exercise, but still burn off calories. So instead of planning extensive workouts you may dread and eventually walk away from, why not schedule yourself a few activities throughout your day that you will look forward to participating in and actually enjoy doing? Things like going for a long walk in the park, riding your bicycle around the block a few times, or playing pitch in the backyard with the kiddies. This not only helps you lose unwanted fat, but gives you back some time with your children you may have been missing out on. Dance if you like music, or spend some time weeding the garden.

Doing things outdoors actually has other benefits as well. Sunshine and fresh air give your mind some new scenery to enjoy and can actually help relieve stress and lift you out of feelings of depression. Your body also needs to be properly oxygenated as well. Doing some deep breathing (like you would if you were running the bases in a game of baseball or touch tackle on the lawn) helps oxygenate you at the same time you’re burning off excess calories. Think about it, and this time when you decide you’re ready to lose weight, exercise, yes. But choose activities you’ll enjoy that add in all sorts of other benefits, too!
